Euphorion (journal)

Euphorion is a scientific journal of literary history for the entire field of German philology. It appears the University Press Carl Winter and edited by Wolfgang Adam. The title derives from Faust, the second part of tragedy. He names the son of Helen and Faust and stands for the combination of ancient and Germanic tradition.

History

The magazine has a convoluted story editor.

In 1894 Euphorion was founded by August Sauer, an Austrian historian of literature. From the year 1914 he took over together with Josef Nadler publishing. Shortly before Sauer's death in 1926 replaced him Georg Stefansky.

From 1934 to 1944, the magazine was renamed in poetry and folklore and published by Hermann Pongs and Julius Petersen. The content was, accordingly, marked strongly nationalistic.

In 1950, the magazine again got its old title. The editors were now Pomerania and Hans Hans Neumann.
