The Eurasian Economic Community ( EurAsEC, JewrAsES; partly Euro-Asian Economic Community; Russian: Евразийское Экономическое Сообщество, ЕврАзЭС, English: Eurasian Economic Community, EurAsEC ) is a politico-economic alliance of European and Asian states of the former Soviet Union.

The Member States undertake to reduce trade barriers and tariffs, and economic cooperation.

History

The Eurasian Economic Community was formed on 10 October 2000 by the GIS members Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Formally, the Treaty entered into force in May of 2001. In May of 2002, the States of Moldova and Ukraine were given observer status in the EurAsEC. Another observer state is Armenia. A particularly close cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Community target Russia and Belarus with the Russian -Belarusian Union.

In January 2006, Uzbekistan joined the Eurasian Economic Community. This was given by the Uzbek President Islom Karimov announced at the former meeting of the Economic Community in Strelna near St. Petersburg. End of 2008, the exit of Uzbekistan from the Community.

2015 is to be established as a supplement to the Eurasian Economic Community, the Eurasian Union.
