EuroBasket 1946

The 4th European Basketball Championship of Men ( officially: Euro Basket 1946) took place from 30 April to 4 May 1946 in Geneva. European champions Czechoslovakia. Silver went to Italy and Hungary won the bronze medal.

Preliminary round

The first round was carried out in three groups of four or even three teams twice. The winner of the match was awarded two points, the loser one point. Stand a game at the end of regulation time draw, so there was extension.

The winners of each group as well as the runner-up of the large group A were set to participate in the games at the European Championship and had EM- 4th place already secure. The runner-up of small groups B and C had a position to challenge a play-off for fifth EM space, while the remaining teams the EM places 7 to 10 playing off each other.

After the first round met in the small semi-finals, third - and fourth- placed teams from the group A against the two third-placed teams of the groups B and C with each other. The winners played for EM -Platz 7, the losers to EM- 9th place

5th and 6th

The two runners-up of small groups B and C were automatically qualified for the play- EM -Platz 5.

Place 1 to 4

After the first round met in the semifinals the first and second placed in Group A against the two winners of Groups B and C together. The winners played in the final of the European Championship, the loser in the 3rd place match for the bronze medal.
