EuroBasket 1957

The 10th European Basketball Championship of Men ( officially: Euro Basket 1957) took place from 20 to 30 June 1957 in Sofia instead. After the third place at the last European Championship host two years earlier was once again the Soviet selection at the top of the podium and celebrated her fourth title triumph in total. Bulgaria hosts won the silver medal, Czechoslovakia won the bronze medal.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was played in four groups of four teams. The winner of the match was awarded two points, the loser one point. Stand a game at the end of regulation time draw, so there was extension. In case of equality, the direct comparison decided against each other.

The two first and second position in their group were set for the final round and had 8 place already secure. The remaining teams played in the placement rounds for the 9 EM- space.

Placement Round

All teams that had missed in their preliminary round group the top two spots for the next round, played in a single group at the 9th Place. This was awarded to the winner of the placement round, decided the further order of the EM- 10 to 16 seats. So the runner-up was automatically EM- tenth, third place was awarded the 11 EM- rank, etc..

Final round

Both first-and second-placed each preliminary round group played in a single group for the European title. This was awarded to the winner of the final round, decided their further order of the EM places 2-8. So was the runner- EM- silver, third-placed European Championship bronze etc..
