EuroBasket 1985

The 24th European Basketball Championship of Men ( officially: Euro Basket 1985) was held from 5 to 16 June 1985 in the Federal Republic of Germany. For the 14th time, the record winner from the Soviet Union secured the gold medal. Silver won Czechoslovakia, the bronze medal went to defending champion Italy.

Venues

The preliminary matches of group A were held in Karlsruhe Europa Halle. The matches of Group B found in the Leverkusen Wilhelm Dopatka Hall. All games from the quarter finals were contested in Stuttgart's Hanns -Martin -Schleyer -Halle.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was played in two groups of six teams. The winner of the match was awarded two points, the loser one point. Stand a game at the end of regulation time draw, so there was extension. In case of equality, the direct comparison decided against each other.

The first four teams in each group qualified for the quarter-finals and had EM- 8th place already secure, the remaining teams played in the final round to EM- 9th place

The respective fifth and sixth placed teams from the two preliminary round groups played to EM- 9 Played place was a knock- on cross against an opponent from the other group.

Quarterfinals

The first four teams in each preliminary round group play for a place in the last four. It was played in KO system via cross against an opponent from the other group.

Place 5-8

The excreted in the quarter-finals teams played to EM- 5th place

Place 1 to 4

The winning teams in the quarterfinals played for the European title.
