EuroBasket 1987
The 25th European Basketball Championship of Men ( officially: Euro Basket 1987) took place from 3 to 14 June 1987 in Athens. European champion hosts Greece, which had only with difficulty prevent two defeats in the preliminary round group A obviously stronger early retirement can. With their final victory in the extension of the Greeks succeeded at least a rematch against the defending champion USSR, so a recent overall win just missed. The bronze medal won Yugoslavia.

Preliminary round
The preliminary round was played in two groups of six teams. The winner of the match was awarded two points, the loser one point. Stand a game at the end of regulation time draw, so there was extension. In case of equality, the direct comparison decided against each other.
The first four teams in each group qualified for the quarter-finals and had EM- 8th place already secure, the remaining teams played in the final round to EM- 9th place

The first four teams in each preliminary round group play for a place in the last four. It was played in KO system via cross against an opponent from the other group.

The excreted in the quarter-finals teams played to EM- 5th place
Place 1 to 4
The winning teams in the quarterfinals played for the European title.
