Eurobot is an international championship in which it comes to design autonomous robots that meet a certain, every year changing task. The participants, mainly from Europe, but the competition is open to teams from all over the world.

The competition

Eurobot takes place every year since 1998. By 2004, he was held in La Ferté -Bernard in France. Since 2005, the competition will take place at different locations.

Unlike, for example the Robocup competition is designed so that students and amateurs have a fair chance against university teams of scientists. In 2004, 250 teams from 21 countries participated.

The competition was started in 1994 from the French Championship Coupe de France de Robotique - this still exists as French round of qualifying for Eurobot and also has more than 200 teams.

Participant

On EUROBOT participate mainly students from technical schools, especially of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science or computer science technical. The participants work together in teams of at least two people and can be up to 30 years old. Only one coach is allowed to exceed this age limit.

Objectives

The aim of the Eurobot and its national preliminaries is to young people to provide a platform in which they can try playful technical ideas. Instead of competition, therefore, are more technical gimmick, technical and cultural enrichment, creativity and fair play in the foreground. Through the annually changing task competition provides an opportunity to practically apply the theoretical knowledge in the study.

The mood during the Eurobots is more like a robotics festival as a strict competition. So it is especially true with the French team on a number of imaginatively designed mascot that fuel the audience during the competitions. In general, a great festival for the participants and their fans will be organized at the end of the competition.

Catchment area

Eurobot takes place in Europe, but he is open to all nations. The countries from which more than three teams want to participate must organize a national preliminary to determine the three teams that will participate in the international competition. But multinational teams are welcome. The organization of national and international competition preliminary decisions based almost entirely on the commitment of volunteers. They are often former participants, but other robot people interested in supporting the Eurobot active.

Topic

Unlike, for example, in the Robocup, the theme of the competition changes each year, so as not to disadvantage the new teams and those who have already participated to offer a new challenge. Some basic data can not be modified: the games take exactly 90 seconds, the robots can not exceed a predetermined size and the playing field is not usually larger than an area of 3 x 2.1 meters. In a round, always two teams compete against each other.
