Eurocard (payment card)

Euro Card is a company belonging to MasterCard in 2003 set the umbrella brand for credit cards.

It was first introduced in 1964 by the Swedish banker Wallenberg. As early as 1965 Euro Card International SA was founded with headquarters in Brussels as a credit card organization of several European banks, and the euro card so that an international means of payment, which was the only alternative to the time until then purely U.S. offer.

In 1968, Euro Card International and the U.S. credit card company MasterCard International announced a strategic alliance through which the Euro Card became the world's recognized method of payment. Until 1999 Euro Card had issued 8.8 million tickets in Germany alone.

The Euro Card mark was abandoned in 2003 as an umbrella brand for credit cards in favor of MasterCard. In Scandinavia, however, Euro Card exists as a brand for Mastercard credit cards on.
