Euromos

Euromos (Greek Εὔρωμος; Carian Kyromos, Hyromos ) was an ancient city in the interior of Asia Minor landscape Caria (now in the Muğla Province in Turkey), the most important city of Caria after the nearby, about ten kilometers away Mylasa (today Milas ).

Middle of the 5th century BC was Euromos member of the Delian League. The hekatomnidische King solos mouse was in the 4th century BC with its Hellenistic probably to strengthen the place at. Euromos seems to have retained its independence until the neighboring town Mylasa 167 BC rebelled against the domination of the Greek Rhodes and then took control also over the area of Euromos. Euromos formed alliances with the Roman Empire, with Rhodes and the Carian city Iasos, whereby it grew in Hellenistic and Roman times and flourished.

In the 1970s, excavations and restoration work has been started but not yet ended. The Temple of Zeus Lepsynos from the second century AD, is one of the six best-preserved temples of Asia, although its ornaments are apparently not quite finished. Of the original 32 Corinthian columns half is still standing upright and wearing parts of the entablature. Inscriptions commemorate the founder and stonemasons from the former sanctuary of Zeus Labraunda have set with the double ax ( Labrys ) multiply their mark. From the rest of the city are only a few ruins remain: a theater, an agora and tombs.
