Europa-Kolleg Hamburg

The Europa-Kolleg Hamburg is a non-profit private foundation. The Foundation's purpose is to promote research and academic teaching in the field of European integration and international cooperation. The Foundation contributes to their financing and fulfilled all related administrative tasks.

For the research and the implementation of training and further education, the Foundation, the Institute for Integration Studies founded in 1977 in agreement with the University of Hamburg (now the Institute for European Integration) as a research institution at the University.

A key offering of the institute is the course " European and European Legal Studies ".

There is the possibility to live in the College of Europe for the students. The apartments are also European and international scientists open.

History

The Europa-Kolleg Hamburg was founded in 1953 as a foundation on the initiative of the then Rector of the University of Hamburg Bruno Snell.

The College of Europe has accompanied the process of European integration from the beginning through academic teaching, interdisciplinary research and awareness raising events.

First, the College of Europe, especially skilled in domestic and foreign students of various disciplines offered the opportunity to live under one roof and learn. In the 1960s, developed training and promotion opportunities for post-graduate students. A focal point was in the 1990s by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft ( DFG) Research Training Group " Integration Research ", from the rd. 45 PhD students have emerged. Since 1998, the College of Europe through the postgraduate program "Master of European Studies". With the beginning of the academic year 2008/ 09 a reformed program " European and European Legal Studies " is offered.

With the establishment of the Institute for Integration Research in 1978 as an academic institution at the University of Hamburg, the organizational framework for the development of research skills was created. The Institute since then with support, in particular the European Union and the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD) research projects, scientific conferences and lectures, which have been found in numerous publications reflected.

Institute for European Integration

The Institute for European Integration is the organizational framework for the scientific activities of the College of Europe. It has the status of a " scientific institution at the University of Hamburg" and enjoys the constitutional freedom of research and teaching. The Institute has the task to stimulate, interdisciplinary research in the field of European integration as well as other regional integrations alone or together with other scientific institutions and perform. The Institute has also together with the University of Hamburg, the scientific responsibility for the development and implementation of teaching, particularly in the master's and doctoral programs.

Master of European and European Legal Studies

In connection with the conversion of courses offered in accordance with the Bologna process was created based on the existing postgraduate program "Master of European Studies", the new course " Master of European and European Legal Studies ".

The course language is mainly English, in parts also German. It is possible to complete the entire program in English. The Master's thesis can be written in German or English.

It may be the degree of "Master of Arts ( MA )" or "Master of Laws ( LL.M.) " can be obtained.

In 2008, 32 students were studying at the College of Europe, including students from Kosovo, which are promoted as part of a scholarship program of the European Union.
