Europan

Europan is the largest European housing and urban design competition initiative for young architects and results in a two -year rhythm of the same architecture and urban development competition on current topics with a focus on housing construction.

Structure of the initiative

The initiative was founded in 1989 and is supported by 19 European countries. Organizers of these competitions is the club " Europan Europe ", based in Paris, which is the European umbrella organization of a network of national Europan organizations. President of the Association is currently the former Mayor of Lausanne, Yvette Jaggi. The national organizations are composed of representatives of public administrations, cities and municipalities, as well as representatives of the builders and architects shaft.

The German section Europan - has German Society for the Advancement of Architecture, Housing and Urban Development based in Berlin.

The initiative has a network of professionals, architects, urban planners and around 250 European cities, which together work out the issues and analyze and from whose ranks the juries will be occupied.

Objectives of competition

The aim of the competition is to find innovative and experimental approaches for sites that are proposed by European cities and to promote dialogue on architecture and urban design locally and internationally, and to support talented young architects of the notice to the realization of their ideas. Furthermore, the competition aims to participating municipalities and creative help build Europe-wide networks and therefore, the idea of ​​using synergy effects.

Participants must be under 40 years old. You can join together in working groups and in some cases edit multiple locations in parallel. In each country, a national jury selects the winners of the respective sites.

Europan offers young European architects the opportunity to make international attention outside the ordinary competition systems, with exceptional designs. This is facilitated by the ability to edit and locations outside their own national borders, and the great attention that enjoys the competition and its publications in scientific circles. Among the previous winners were also some known today as offices Riewe Riegler (Graz, Austria ), MVRDV (Netherlands), NL Architects ( Netherlands) or Njiric & Njiric (Croatia).
