European Athletics Association

The European Athletic Association (German: "European Athletics Association " ) (EAA ) is the European branch of the International Association of Athletics Federations ( " International Association of Athletics Associations " ) ( IAAF).

It is a divided six continents by groups of the IAAF. The EAA claims to be a government independent, non-profit or limited-time organization, since 1 January 2004 and based in Lausanne ( Switzerland, earlier in Germany ).

History

During a meeting of the IAAF in Los Angeles in 1932, a special committee of the Council was tasked to examine the conditions for organizing European Championships. The IAAF Council decided to establish a European committee with Szilard Stankovits as President in a meeting on 24 September 1933 in Berlin. The first meeting was held on January 7, 1934 in Budapest, the first European Championships were held in 1934 in Turin.

The European Committee is elected until 1966 by all IAAF members to regularly scheduled meetings, it also gradually took over the organization of other competitions.

At a formal meeting on 1 November 1969 in Bucharest, the Association of European members of the IAAF was formed. Their statutes were confirmed in August 1970 on an IAAF Congress in Stockholm and performed at the first EAA Congress on November 7, 1970 in force.

Construction

The EAA consists of the national athletics associations in Europe, which are also members of the IAAF. Only organizations that are known to the IAAF, can apply for membership and must be confirmed on a EAA Congress through the recommendation of the IAAF.

Internal organization

The EAA consists of:

  • Congress to represent their members within the rules of the IAAF, the legislative power and supreme authority of the EAA,
  • The Council, which is responsible for implementing the decisions of Congress and from the President,
  • Two Vice-Presidents,
  • The treasurer,
  • The Director-General (ex officio ),
  • The President of the IAAF as (ex officio )
  • And 13 other members composed; the term of office is four years.

The Congress of the EAA, which takes place every odd year in April, consists of the Council and the representatives of members, each member has one vote. The elections shall be held at the usual conventions.

On the board, the President, Vice-Presidents, the Secretary and the Treasurer, representing the EAA from the right for sitting.

The European calendar conference, at which the delegates of the members and the clubs participating, will be held in October or November of each year and agreed a timetable to be planned according to the athletics events.

Objectives

The objectives set itself the EAA, as stated by, for example, the preservation and development of friendly and loyal cooperation between all members in terms of athletics, of peace and understanding in Europe as well as the control of all technological, administrative and financial affairs in Europe according to the rules of the IAAF. In addition, the EAA is to promote ethical values ​​in sport, action against all forms of doping, as well as racial, religious, political and other discrimination. In addition, attention is still considered the holding of all European Championships and other athletics events in Europe.
