European Car of the Year

Car of the year, officially "Car of the Year" ( COTY short ), is a created by European magazines award that receives one of each new car series annually since 1963.

You can choose between the newly introduced into the market models of the past twelve months.

The choice is made by journalists who are selected by the magazines in Europe. Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy and Spain are more strongly represented than other countries. Each voter has 25 points available, of which he can be awarded a maximum of 10 for a single vehicle. Technical innovations and a favorable price- performance ratio should be particularly important criteria.

Results

Fiat has (as of 2014 inclusive ) won this award nine times, six times Renault, Ford five times, Opel and Peugeot four times each, Citroen and VW three times each; Alfa Romeo, Audi, Nissan, Rover, Toyota and Simca two times.

The VW Golf won twice (1992 and 2013 with the third to the seventh generation); he was placed in each of its I-VII series.

The absolute scores increased over the years due to the increase of participating journals.

Excellent convertible ( Cabrio of the Year )

Since 1994 the title " Cabrio of the Year" is awarded by a 21- member jury ( motoring journalists and experts from twelve countries).
