European Chamber Music Academy

The European Chamber Music Academy is an Austrian association that promotes young chamber music ensembles.

Areas of Practice

The ECMA was founded in 2004 on the initiative of Hatto Beyerle and as a cooperation of European training institutions and festivals offers a two-year training program for selected chamber music ensembles. In particular, string quartets and piano trios promotes EMCA. Within the program organize the different partner institutions on a regular basis one-week sessions. The ECMA- ensembles are supervised by faculty members. Cultural History, performance practice, etc. philosophical lectures and workshops focus form in this conception the background for the in-depth artistic work. Legally ECMA is an association under Austrian law. President of the Association is Mathias Deichmann. Artistic Director of the ECMA Hatto Beyerle and Johannes Meissl are.

Since 2010, in collaboration with the Research Center L3S, the Oldenburg Research and Development Institute of computer science and the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg / Ostfriesland offers the ECMA to a tele coaching for chamber music. Since the traditional video conferencing systems oriented language and are therefore less suitable for music, from the participating institutions specifically, a new system has been developed.
