European Commissioner for Development & Humanitarian Aid

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection is a member of the European Commission.

The field of humanitarian aid was included in the department of the Development Commissioner in 1973. By appointment of the Barroso II Commission in February 2010 but was outsourced to a private resort. As the Bulgarian Commissioner Rumjana Jeleva was initially nominated, but on January 19, 2010 gave up the post after criticism from the European Parliament. In their place was Kristalina Georgieva first incumbent.

The European Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO ) reports to the Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid.
