European Cooperation in Science and Technology

COST (short for Coopération européenne dans le domaine de la recherche scientifique et technique, to German European Cooperation in the field of Science and Technology) is a European framework for the coordination of national research activities carried out in all areas of science and technology. Since the dawn of 1971, the participation ( the EU Member States, Iceland, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, and Israel as a cooperating country) is on 35 member countries has grown and many participants worldwide who work in a variety of transdisciplinary networks.

Basic aims

  • Meet the need for international cooperation and transdisciplinary research
  • Effective use of existing capacities throughout Europe of knowledge, technical equipment and financial resources and create sustainable networks
  • Identify new issues and as a catalyst to initiate further research
  • Complement the EU 's Research Framework Programme
  • Strengthen the European position in scientific / technical research and development
