European Heritage Days

The European Heritage Days 1991 were founded on the initiative of the Council of Europe. The aim of this day is to raise public awareness of the importance of cultural heritage and to arouse interest in the area of historic preservation. These little-known monuments to the public in Europe so far made ​​available and offered special tours. The coordination at European level is perceived on behalf of Europe by the " Fondation Roi Baudouin " in Brussels.

History

Since entering the European Union in 1999 - this year 46 countries were already doing, this European event carries the official title of European Heritage Days ( EHD) / Journées du Patrimoine européennes.

Common principles

The events are to follow in all countries according to the same principles. These are:

  • The European Heritage Days take place on a weekend in September;
