European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group

The European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group ( EHEDG ) is a consortium of equipment manufacturers for the food manufacturing, food processing companies, research institutes and institutions of public health as a foundation. It was founded in 1989 with the aim to support hygiene measures during the manufacture and packaging of food.

Organization

The EHEDG is a Dutch foundation, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main. It consists of a board, working and regional groups. A president is elected by the Board for three years and represents the foundation to the outside. The regional groups meet national representatives within the EHEDG. The working groups develop, the assistance of external experts, guidelines on various aspects of food hygiene, which are then available to members.

Task

The implementation of various EU directives on the handling, processing and packaging of food is up to individual companies. The merger to EHEDG serves to develop assistance for companies to implement the statutory requirements, and to allow an EU-wide, unified plan of action in accordance with international and national regulations. The assistance will be discussed and published in the form of guidelines.

In a world network of such requirements is the EHEDG eg with American organizations such as NSF and 3-A in exchange to get together to work out at the international level action structures and mutually adapt.

The EHEDG provides machine builders and component delivery assistants to have their products evaluated and certified by the Hygienic design requirements. Here, various types are available.
