European Network Against Racism

The European Network Against Racism ( ENAR short ) is a network of over 600 non-governmental organizations with headquarters in Brussels, which has set itself the target to combat racism and discrimination in the Member States of the European Union.

Formation

The organization was founded in 1997 within the framework of the European Year Against Racism. Between March and September 1998, about 600 organizations came together to develop a general concept. Even today, the ENAR has over 600 members. ENAR has received much approval by the participating organizations, as it offers them a forum to communicate with each other and to be able to turn to with their policies to the EU.

Organization

ENAR is divided into 27 national groups, which each elect one representative and one member who make the connection between the national group and its headquarters in Brussels. This total of 54 envoys form the general composition of the ENAR, which makes up the core of the organization. You decide on budget issues, as well as the general policy of the ENAR and meet once a year. The "Management Board", consisting of the representatives of the 27 EU member states, is responsible for organizing the activities of the ENAR and monitors compliance with the general policy. Finally, the Office of the ENAR is composed of seven members elected by the Management Board. Here, the organizational activities of the network are monitored on a daily basis.

Objectives

ENAR campaigns against discrimination and for equality, better migration and integration, social and economic integration of migrants, strengthening fundamental rights and better education policy. A distinction is made between goals at the EU level and national objectives of the Member States:

Objectives at EU level

At EU level, the ENAR tries to influence EU legislation through the formulation of political writings and recommendations. It aims to provide for basic guidelines to combat racism and discrimination. Here, the ENAR acts as a central voice that represents the member parties and partnerships, and coalitions with other networks and organizations closes.

Objectives at the national level

At the national level, the ENAR aims to strengthen the dialogue between the organizations themselves, but also from these to the citizens. Furthermore, it informs its members about current political developments in the EU.
