The European Agency for Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA, the European Network and Information English Security Agency ) is an agency set up by the European Union in 2004. Seat of since September 2005 on legally competent ENISA is Heraklion on Crete. Director of the Authority is Udo Helmbrecht.

Purpose
The Regulation number 460/2004 of the European Parliament and Council of 10 March 2004 the scope, objectives and tasks of the Agency described:
Area of responsibility
- Network and information security within the European Union;
- Development of a culture of network and information security for citizens, consumers, enterprises and public sector organizations of the European Union.
Objectives
- To cope with the improvement of Community and Member States' ability to prevent problems in the area of network and information security and to resolve
- Support and advice to the European Commission and the Member States on issues related to network and information security
- Our expertise promote cooperation between actors from the public and the private sector.
- Support of the European Commission in the technical preparatory work for updating and developing Community legislation in the field of network and information security.
Tasks
- Analysis of risks
- Support of the European Parliament, the European Commission, European bodies and agencies of the Member States
- Promote cooperation between actors
- Facilitate cooperation between the European Commission and the Member States
- Contributions to raising awareness and providing information
- Support of the European Commission and the Member States in their dialogue with industry
- Track the development of standards and norms
- Advice to the European Commission in relation to research
- Promotion of risk assessment activities, risk management and prevention management
- Contribute to cooperation with third countries and international organizations
- Own conclusions, guidelines and advice
Organization
ENISA has about 50 employees.
Management
The Agency is headed by a Managing Director. The first executive representative was Andrea Pirotti, its successor in 2009 Udo Helmbrecht took.
Board of Directors
ENISA is overseen by a Board of Directors (Management Board), composed of delegates from the Member States, the European Commission and stakeholders from industry, consumer protection and from research.
The German management boards for the Member State Germany include Martin Schallbruch (Federal Ministry of the Interior) and Michael Hange ( Federal Office for Security in Information Technology ).
For Austria, Reinhard Posch representatives on the Board who has this led to 2010 as chairman.
The stakeholders are for the academic side Kai Rannenberg (Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main ) and for the consumer side Markus Bautsch ( Stiftung Warentest) since the beginning member of the Board of Directors.
Permanent Stakeholders' Group
The Permanent Stakeholders 'Group ( Permanent Stakeholders ' Group) is formed for the preparation of projects and is also composed of representatives of industry, consumer protection and from research.
Potential conflicts
With the establishment of the European Centre to combat cyber crime under the aegis of Europol are made possible by the overlapping competencies of the two organizations conflicts. The cause lies in the lack of coordination of responsibilities.
Cooperation
ENISA cooperates with national level of the European Union with all relevant ministries, regulators and many other subordinate authorities (CERT, police ) and institutions, such as:
