European Optical Society

The European Optical Society ( EOS short ) is a nonprofit association that represents the interests of its members at European level. The EOS was founded on May 24, 1991, to unite scientific institutions in 20 states and has made Germany the German Society for Applied Optics ( DGaO ) and the Scientific Laser Society ( WLT ) as members. Club headquarters and jurisdiction is Paris.

Objectives & Mission

The European Optical Society promotes scientific progress in the field of optical technologies and related sciences, and their application at European and international level through networking of actors in this field of technology. Here, the EOS serves as a platform for all researchers, businesses, organizations, educational institutions and other professional associations, who want to develop optical technologies and its applications in Europe.

Main activities

  • Topical organization of meetings, workshops and conferences, and co-sponsoring of other scientific events in the field of optical technologies
  • Specialized sections for the various application fields of optical technologies (eg imaging, terahertz technologies, micro-optics, optical metrology, education and training, etc.)
  • Issue of the online journal (see below)
  • Publication of an electronic and a print newsletter (the latter is in the magazine " Optics & Laser Europe ( OLE) " published)
  • Lobbying at European level ( technology platform Photonics21, Phorce21 )
  • Annual award of the EOS- price
