European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment

The European Organization for Civil Aviation Equipment EUROCAE or short is a non-profit organization that deals with the standardization of electronics in aviation. EUROCAE was founded in 1963 in Lucerne ( Switzerland ). The EUROCAE offices are located in Malakoff (France) on the outskirts of Paris.

EUROCAE is to solve technical problems for the use of electric and electronic aviation equipment. The organization standardizes equipment requirements for both electronics in aircraft as well as ground-based positioning and navigation procedures and develops related documents and standards.

The EUROCAE members come from international aviation authorities (eg EASA, CAA, LBA), aircraft manufacturers, air navigation service providers, airlines, airport operators and other affected entities (eg testing laboratories ). The development of EUROCAE documents ( ED) is voluntary. EUROCAE ensures the organization of the working groups for the frame, put in which experts from the aviation industry, their knowledge of standardization available. EUROCAE is the European equivalent of the U.S. RTCA.

EUROCAE and RTCA work closely together. Some documents, such as document ED -14 ( DO- 160) ( ie, lightning, noise immunity) deals with the influences of the environment on electronics, are jointly developed. The document ED -14 is understood in the aviation industry as a minimum requirement for shielding avionics to environmental influences including the discipline of electromagnetic compatibility.
