European Parliament election, 1979 (Luxembourg)

The European elections in Luxembourg in 1979 was the first direct election of Members of the European Parliament. It took place in the framework of EC -wide held European election in 1979 on 10 June 1979. In Luxembourg, six of the 410 seats were awarded D' Hondt procedure in the European Parliament after. Result

As expected, the ruling Christian Democratic CSV was the strongest party. She was able to secure half the seats. The second strongest party was the liberal DP; they received in the European elections 6.2 percentage points more than in the concurrent election to the Chamber of Deputies and enabled it to secure two seats. A mandate was due to the social-democratic LSAP.
