European Platform of Women Scientists

The European Platform of Women Scientists ( EPWS ) is an umbrella organization of various networks and organizations of scientists from the European Union and other associated with the Research Framework Programme of the European Commission states that promote gender equality in research. President is the biotechnologist Adelheid Ehmke (as of 2014).

Organization

The EPWS was founded in November 2005 as an international non- profit organization under Belgian law ( NPI ) and is led by an international and multidisciplinary panel of eleven senior scientists. It complements the European initiatives to promote greater participation of women scientists in research and science policy as well as the inclusion of a gender dimension in research and thus forms a strategic instrument of European research policy.

The platform represents more than 100 member organizations that advocate the interests and aspirations of more than 12,000 European scientists. It represents natural science to social science, all scientific disciplines.

Objectives

  • Networking of existing networks of scientists from all disciplines and networks promoting science
  • Increase the participation of women scientists in European research and its decision-making bodies as a scientific project staff, project managers and research - ordinators, in review and evaluation processes as well as in expert groups
  • Increasing the participation of women scientists in national and European research programs, especially in the Seventh EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7 )
  • Advertising for the inclusion of the gender dimension and a gender-sensitive conception of excellence and innovation in science policy for all academic fields

Activities

  • Networking and Membership: EPWS supports the work of various national and regional networks of scientists ( "networking the networks" ).
  • Science policy and advocacy: The platform maintains close contact with the female scientific community and performs a constant dialogue with European research institutions.
  • Information and Public Relations: The Newsletter of the EPWS reach more than 1,500 subscribers. Your website is constantly being developed, updated regularly and is called daily by hundreds of visitors.
  • Private and Public Partnerships: The platform works with member networks, research institutions, foundations, institutes of economic research and other public facilities.
