European Savings Banks Group

The European Savings Banks Group ( ESBG ) is a European banking group with headquarters in Belgium, which represents the interests of its 26 members in the EU institutions. The focus here is particularly directed to the private customer business. It was founded in 1963 under the name ' Savings Banks Group of the European Economic Community ' ( Sparkasse group of the European Community ) and renamed in 1988 in ' European Savings Banks Group ' ( European Savings Banks Group ). The Brussels office is also the seat of the sister Organistation the 'World Savings Banks Institute ' (World Savings Banks Institute - this was originally founded in Milan in 1924 ).

Objectives

The ESBG formulated the position of its members in relation to issues that arise in connection with the European financial services industry. In addition to the ESBG serve as a cooperation forum and facilitate its members to search for consortium partners on a bilateral, or multilateral basis. Another goal is to contribute through technical advice and training to the operational efficiency of its members. Mission

The ESGB has made ​​it his main task to provide the savings and retail banking being a voice in Europe. Three aspects focus is on a:

  • A strengthening and definition of the profile of the savings from the EU institutions and interest groups (interest representation / advocacy ). In the area of ​​interest representation in the EU institutions, the strategic priority of the ESBG is to promote pluralism in the European banking industry. All financial institutions should have the same basic requirements and thus benefit from a single game frame.
  • The platform support for joint initiatives and projects ( Business Cooperation / Economic Co-operation ). In the area of ​​economic cooperation, the ESBG strives to simplify the development of platforms for the exchange of experiences between members. Such initiatives have taken place approximately in the area of ​​advising SMEs and the banking technology.
  • The implementation of technical assistance programs ( Consultancy Services / Consulting ). In the field of consultancy, in collaboration with multilateral agencies offers the ESBG to technical support. Examples include the cooperation projects between the EU and China in the field of financial services, the EU project aimed at disseminating information on the impact of Basel II on Small and Medium Enterprises.

Structure

The European Savings Banks Group is supported by two institutions: the General Assembly and the "Board of Directors". The General Assembly consists of all ESBG members and meets once a year. The "Board of Directors" determines the general guidelines and meets at least twice a year. The activities of the ESBG advised by a number of committees and working groups. Topics covered range from regulation and monitoring to banking technology and cooperation. A coordination committee is to ensure the smooth co-operation with its sister organization WSBI (World Savings Bank Institute).

The European Savings Banks Group leads a project managed by Chris De Noose Secretariat in Brussels, in its international orientation, the three pillars of ESBG activities - should reflect - advocacy, economic cooperation and advice.
