Europium (III) -oxide is a chemical compound from the group of oxides of europium.
Production and representation
Europium (III) -oxide can be obtained directly by reaction of europium or europium ( II) oxide with oxygen.
In order to obtain nanocrystals of the material, a synthesis is used by calcination of the corresponding hydroxide or oxalate.
Properties
Europium ( III ) oxide is a hygroscopic white to hellrosaner odorless solid that is practically insoluble in water. It has a monoclinic crystal structure.
Use
In long-wave UV light it glows bright red and is therefore processed primarily on banknotes as a safety color.
