Euroregion

Europe, the euro region or Euregio ( neologism from the Latin Europe and regions ) denotes transnational regions in Europe, mostly with an economic focus. They should promote cross- border cooperation and the regions themselves in social and cultural terms. The European Union hopes that in addition to the aspect of transnational cooperation and a strengthening of the potentially weaker peripheral regions of the individual Member States.

The terms themselves are not clearly defined, which is why Euregions are found in different legal forms:

• Fixed concentrations under public law
• Fixed concentrations under private law
• Loose associations, which do not constitute legal person

The designation of European region is derived from the provisions of the Council of Europe's 1980 Convention on cross -border cooperation between regions in Europe, the so-called " Madrid Convention " from. A Europe region includes areas of at least two cooperating states.

The oldest European region is the Euregio Founded in 1958 and based in Gronau, as the Local Government Association, along the North Rhine- Westphalian- Lower Saxon boundary includes approximately 130 municipalities in the Netherlands and Germany.
