Eurovision Dance Contest 2008

The second Euro Vision Dance Contest was held on September 6, 2008 in Glasgow, United Kingdom. 14 countries participated. The Polish couple to Edyta herbus and Marcin Mroczek won with 154 points.

The only German speaking participants came from Austria, after Germany and Switzerland withdrew after only one participation. Austria itself occupied only the penultimate place.

New Rules

Compared with the first edition, there were three major innovations. So it was basically no longer allowed to send a two pros couple in the competition, each pair had to include a nationally known personality. Furthermore, each pair resulted in only before a single dance. In addition, the radio station received the proviso to allow a jury to participate with a voting weight of 20 percent of the vote.

Despite the new rules, Greece and Azerbaijan were each with two professional dancers.

National Qualifications

Ireland

The Irish found her dancing couple on 30 May 2008 as part of the Late Late Show in which previously the Irish contributions to the Euro Vision Song Contest have been nominated in 2006 and 2007. In the same show also the winner of the Euro Vision Song Contest 2008 occurred. Pat Kenny hosted the show.

Austria

The Austrian preliminary decision on 6 June 2008 disputed eight couples, including the singer and actress Simone Stelzer, who has represented their country at the Euro Vision Song Contest 1990. Dorian Steidl and his partner Nicole Kuntner sat there through with Dancing Star.

In Germany, the WDR was responsible for the organization of the preliminary decision. However, the station announced in June 2008 that will waived because of " modest success in the Federal Republic " to participate. The event had very low ratings in the previous year. This year, a broadcast on German television, therefore, did not take place.

The Switzerland drew also back from the Euro Vision Dance Contest. The competent SF said that they would wait for the development of the program.

The Spanish TV station TVE announced that they would stay out of the contest. On the same evening, the football World Cup qualifier between Spain and Bosnia and Herzegovina took place in Murcia.
