The Concours 23 Euro Vision Song Contest, the official title of this year, was held in the French capital Paris on 22 April 1978.

With 20 tracks in this contest was the largest up to that year. This number has been reached, as Turkey and Denmark returned. The participating since 1973 Israel won this competition with Izhar Cohen and his accompanying group recited the song A- Ba -Ni -Bi. The second place went to Belgium, the third to hosts France.
For the first time the competition was presented jointly by two moderators. For the Federal Republic of Germany Ireen Sheer came with the song to fire. It reached number 6, three places better than the Swiss Carole Vinci ( Vivre ). For Austria, the Group Springtime came with Mrs. Caroline Robinson, but only reached 15th place
For Norway Jahn Teigen went to. With his interpretation of the song Mil etter mil he got from any country points and became the first artist since the introduction of the new scoring system in 1975 in history who got zero points.
