The 35th Euro Vision Song Contest took place on 5 May 1990 in Vatroslav Lisinski Hall in Zagreb (now Croatia) instead. It won Italy with the written and presented by Toto Cutugno Insieme song: 1992nd For Germany, the duo Chris Kempers and Daniel Kovac took entitled to live free part, which, though highly favored, landed on the 9th Place. Behind the song came no more walls of Simone from Austria, which had to qualify through a back door, as the real winner in 1987 took on the German Trials. These two titles were just two of many that at least the suggestion themed the fall of the Wall and the collapse of the Soviet bloc regimes. Even Norway, Ireland or even the winners Italy were concerned with political issues. The Switzerland came up with Egon Egemann and music sounds out into the world in 11th place behind Germany and Austria.

Allegedly threatened shortly before the contest due to discrepancies with the Yugoslav television with their cancellation the moderators.
