Eurrhypis pollinalis is a (small) butterfly of the family Crambidae. The species is widely distributed across Europe.

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 28-33 millimeters. Front and rear wings are dark brown to almost black. On the forewing sit two large, usually somewhat protracted white spots at the wing base is a white line. The hind wings have two elongated, white spots, but they are smaller than the spots of the fore wings. Front and rear wings are lined with white on the outer edge.

Occurrence

The species occurs in southern and central Europe. They are found in warm, sunny locations open countryside widespread. It rises in the mountains to over 1500 meters height.

Way of life

Eurrhypis pollinalis forms two overlapping generations per year from flying from April to August. The oligophagen caterpillars feed on various species of leguminous plants, such as Broom ( Genista ), Hauhecheln ( ononis ) and Geißklee ( Cytisus ). They live in tubular passages, ranging from plant stems to the ground.
