Eustace of Luxeuil

Eustasius, French Eustache or Eustace (* 560, † April 2 629 in Luxeuil -les- Bains, France) was a holy abbot and missionary of the Bavarians.

Life

He was a disciple of St. Columban, whom he accompanied on a mission trip to Bregenz. After the expulsion from the monastery of Saint Columbanus of Luxeuil Eustasius was there 615 Dept. He evangelized the Warasker on the Doubs and undertook together with Agilus mission trips to Bavaria.

After the Synod of Mâcon 627, the monks of Luxeuil gave up iroschottischen forms of worship and aligned itself to the Gallican liturgy. Since Eustasius demanded a strict adherence to the Rule, there were repeated conflicts with the monks of his monastery.

After his death he was buried in Luxeuil -les- Bains, later his relics came to Vergaville (Lorraine ) and Seitingen- Oberflacht ( Eustasius chapel ), where he is revered as Anastasius ( Anstett or ).

Remembrance

His feast day is April 2.

Since he is supposed to have the blind, the sick and demon-possessed fever cured, he is invoked as Patron of the insane and possessed. He is portrayed as an abbot with wand and book, the idols were overturned or possessed heals.
