Euthymius Zigabenos or correct: Zygadenos Ευθύμιος Ζιγαβηνός or Ζιγαδηνός, Latin form of the name Euthymius Zigabenus or Zigabenius (* mid 11th century; † after 1118) was a Byzantine theologian and monk in Constantinople Opel.

Life

On behalf of Emperor Alexius I, he edited together with John Phurnes the Panoplia, ie armory of the Orthodox faith, consisting of 28 individual heresies and their refutation dedicated sections. They are directed, among other things against Islam, the Bogomils and the Paulicians. The work is largely compiled from texts of the Church Fathers, hardly more than two sections are original works of Euthymius. He also wrote a commentary on the four Gospels and comments on the Psalms and Paul's letters, each in turn, in the form of Katenen, ie as a compilation of older comments.
