Eva Korpela

Eva Korpela born Lundgren (born 1958 ) is a former Swedish biathlete.

In the early years of the women's biathlon, the Swede was one of the leading athletes of this sport. Korpela was one of the few female biathlete who could compete with the dominant athletes from Norway and the Soviet Union in the 1980s. She was first cross-country skier and changed until the age of 24 to biathlon. From professional policewoman she had the necessary experience as a shooter.

After a second place in the overall World Cup of the season 1984/85 she was in the following season 1985/86 the first non- Norwegian winner of the overall World Cup. This success could repeat a year later and became the first athlete to have won the World Cup more than once.

Also in the in the 1980s, yet little attention Ladies' World Championships, the Swede was successful. In 1985, she won the Swiss municipality Egg am Etzel with the bronze medal in the individual their first world championship medal. A year later, Korpela was able to achieve a medal in all three races held. With the gold medal in singles, the only world title of her career, the silver medal with the Swedish relay and the bronze medal in the sprint, it reached a complete set of medals at the World Championships in 1986 in Falun.

In sprint and individual Korpela reached a year later not a medal but won with the Swedish season as last year the silver medal. 1988 Korpela was beaten with one penalty in the sprint of the faultless German Petra Schaaf. The Swede missed in this race, although their second World Cup title, but reached the second place, the third silver medal of her career. With the Season Korpela won for the third time in a row a medal, this time the bronze medal. In the years 1987 and 1988 she was also Swedish National Champion on the 3 x 5 km at the season of the Sollefteå SK, which included beside her still Lis Frost and Marie -Helene Westin.

After the End of career Korpelas there were some years no Swedish biathletes who could compete in the world rankings. Only with the rise Magdalena Forsberg in the second half of the 1990s there was again a Swedish top athlete, but it was still much more successful compared to Korpela.
