Eva-Maria ten Elsen

Eva -Maria ten Elsen, widowed Hartmann ( born 14 September 1937 in Altenburg ) is a former German swimmer who in 1956 won the first medal for a swimmer of the GDR at the Olympic Games.

Career

Swimming career

She started at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 within the all-German team and won the bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke ( 2:55,1 min). Olympic winner of this competition was the West German swimmer Ursula Happe ( 2:53,1 min).

Eva -Maria ten Elsen was 15 -year-old to the GDR peak, as they Meter Medley in 1952 and 1953 DDR Champion in 200. In 1954, she DDR Champion on the 400 meter track location, after which they rose to the discipline 200 meters breaststroke at. In September 1956, just before the Olympics, she swam a Jahresweltbestleistung ( 2:53,3 min). She started for the SC rotation Leipzig.

In 1960, she failed in the inner-German qualification for the Olympic Games in Rome, and then in 1961 she finished her sporting career.

Another career

In 1966 she completed a degree at the German University of Physical Culture ( DHfK ) with a diploma, after which it was as Trainierin worked in a swimming training center. From 1971 to 1990 she worked for the East German sporting goods trade fair Expo Vita. After the end of the GDR, she worked at a real estate company and a public health insurance.
