Eva Mei

Eva Mei ( born in 1967 in Fabriano, Italy) is an Italian opera, recital and concert singer in the vocal range soprano.

Biography and artistic work

Eva Mei studied singing at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence. There, she graduated in 1989 with a diploma. A year later, she won the International Mozart Competition in Vienna to Caterina Cavalieri Prize for her interpretation of Konstanze in The Abduction from the Seraglio. With this game the young singer made ​​his debut in the same year at the Vienna State Opera. This was the beginning of a successful career, which quickly reached an international level and the soprano led to major opera houses in the world.

In Vienna, Eva Mei sang among others following roles: Donna Anna, Alcina, Hayden's Euridice, Schubert Luitgarde, Violetta and the Contessa di Almaviva. The artist had guest appearances in Zurich as Alice Ford, Queen of the Night at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and at the Staatsoper Berlin, where she excelled as Violetta in La Traviata.

In 1993, the soprano her debut at La Scala as in Rossini's Tancredi Amenaide. At the Scala, in Genoa, Bologna and Munich, she sang - frenetically celebrated by the audience - the Norina in Don Pasquale, at the Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro Fanny in Il Matrimonio di Cambiale, 1996 Berenice in L' Occasione fa il ladro and 1997 Sofia in Il Signor Bruschino.

Eva Mei guest appearances on all major national and international opera stages: Amsterdam, Budapest, Geneva, Palermo, Vienna, Zurich, Berlin, Rome, Turin, Venice, Tokyo, Milan, Munich, Essen, London, Paris, Brussels, Venice, Cagliari, etc. her repertoire encompasses in addition to the roles already mentioned, even more in the following operas: Lucia di Lammermoor, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the Impresario, Turandot, Carmen, La sonnambula, Il turco in Italia, the Marriage of Figaro, Thaïs, the Merry War, Falstaff, Norma, Zaide, La finta giardiniera, to name just some of the many other.

The soprano is a popular and critically acclaimed concert singer who has performed at all the major concert halls of Europe. Her repertoire includes songs by Claude Debussy, Ludwig van Beethoven, Joseph Haydn, Anton Bruckner, Richard Strauss, etc.

Eva Mei sang among others under Myung- Whun Chung, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Daniel Oren, Marcello Viotti, Franz Welser- Möst and Wolfgang Sawallisch. Several CDs, videos, radio and television appearances ( across Europe ) round out the artistic activity of the singer.
