Eva Schulze-Knabe

Eva Schulze- Knabe ( born May 11, 1907 in Pirna, † July 15, 1976 in Dresden) was a painter and graphic artist as well as a resistance fighter against National Socialism.

Life

Eva Schulze- Knabe studied from 1924 to 1926 in Leipzig and from 1928 to 1932 at the Dresden Art Academy. From 1929 she was a member of the artist group association and from 1931 in the KPD. In the same year she married artist Fritz Schulze.

After the beginning of the Nazi dictatorship, she tried to keep up with some comrades, the structures of the banned Communist Party. Result, she was arrested in 1933 for the first time and imprisoned in a concentration camp Hohenstein; it was, however, released after half a year. 1941 flew their resistance group to again and there it was in 1942 sentenced to life imprisonment by the People's Court.

After her release from prison Waldheim 1945, she lived as a freelancer in Dresden. She supervised the founded in 1948, painting and drawing circles Sachsenwerk Niedersedlitz.

Schulze- Knabe died on 15 July 1976 in Dresden and was buried in the Heath Cemetery.

Work

In her work, there are many pictures with political meaning and a series of self-portraits. From it sgraffito have also obtained in a public space, so one from 1958 on the north facade of the building Semperstraße 3 in Dresden.
