Eva Šuranová

Eva Šuranová, born Kucmanová (. Born April 24, 1946 in Ózd Borsod- Abaúj -Zemplén Hungary) is a Slovak athlete who had - starting for the CSSR - was active from 1965 to 1975.

Already under her birth name Kucmanová she was successful in the long jump, sprint, hurdles and pentathlon. In her strongest discipline, the long jump, she became vice European champion. In addition, it is today (2006) the only Slovak athlete who was able to win a medal at the Olympics. At a height of 1.72 m her competition weight was 58 kg.

Eva Šuranová now lives in Bratislava.

  • Summer Olympic Games 1972 Munich: BRONZE with 6.67 m ( Czechoslovak record ) behind Heide Rosendahl with 6.78 m and 6.77 m with Bulgarian Diana Jorgowa
  • European Championships 1974 Rome: SILVER with 6.65 m behind the Hungarian Ilona Bruzsenyák with 6.65 m and before Finn Pirkko Helenius with 6:59 m
