Evald Rygh

Evald Rygh ( born May 26, 1842 in Verdal, † May 9, 1913 in Christiania ) was a Norwegian civil servant and politician.

His parents were the peasant, vassal and Stortingsabgeordnete Peder beach Rygh (1800-1868) and his wife Ingeborg Marie Bentsen ( 1809-1878 ). On November 10, 1870 he married Sophie Arntzen (26 December 1842-19. May 1913 ), daughter of pin bailiff Karelius August Arntzen ( 1802-1875 ) and his wife Hanna Maria Gjerdrumine Arntzen ( 1808-1869 ). His brother was Oluf Rygh, a temporary member of Det lærde Holland.

Rygh studied law and put his exam from 1864. During this time he met the members of the student group " Det lærde Holland" and was also active as a writer of various newspaper articles. In 1865 he took a position in the Department of Finance. 1866-1867 he was awarded a University scholarship to study economics in Britain and France. From there, he also wrote articles on French politics for the Morgenblad. He then returned to his place in the Department of Finance, where he was Head of Department in 1869 and 1872 Ekspedisjonssekretær. In 1875 he was elected to the " Formandsskab " of Christiania, and was from 1892 to 1893 Ordfører. In 1879, he received an offer to join the government of Frederik Stang, but he turned down because he did not share their view on the issue of admission of the Councils of State to the Stortingsverhandlungen. 1880 to 1893 he was mayor of Christiania. When Emil Stang formed his second government, Rygh was sought as finance minister. But despite the pressure on him to take on this position, he hit from this position. This was his farewell from politics. He now dealt primarily with the management of the Bank and held various management positions in organizations and institutions with cultural and social tasks. He was Chairman of the Association to establish a national theater and after 1899 director of the theater. He also took care of the recreation area in the area of Holmenkollen Voksenkollen.
