Career

Evan McGrath began his career in 2001 at his hometown club Oakville Blades in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League, before moving into the high-class Ontario Hockey League 2002 to the Kitchener Rangers. McGrath had a good rookie season with 16 goals and 31 assists in 64 league games. In the playoffs, the Rangers moved in to the finals at the J. Ross Robertson Cup, where they 67 's were finally successful against Ottawa. But the really big success soon followed, when they won the Canadian Junior Championship at the Memorial Cup.

In the second season stagnated services of McGrath and he could not prove he had evolved. Recently as the middle of the season he was out of the scouts in the NHL ranks 15 of the North American field players who were available for the NHL Entry Draft in 2004. However, he slipped to the Draft in the rankings further and further behind and was eventually selected by the Detroit Red Wings only in the fourth round at position 128.

In the season 2004/ 05 he was able to increase significantly and after 23 games, he had already collected 40 points scorer. In the second half of the season he was hampered by an ankle injury and came after 68 games finally on 87 points, with which he was the top scorer of the Rangers. In the playoffs, the team moved to the finals of the Western Conference and McGrath contributed seven goals and six assists in 15 games, while he had to relinquish the role of Topscorers due to his ankle injury to Mike Richards.

The most successful season in the juniors had McGrath 2005/06. With 37 goals and 77 assists, he led the Rangers and finished second in the scorers score the league with 114 points in fifth place. However, his performance in the playoffs subsided and he was only four points in five games against the Mavericks Owen Sound Attack who could decide the series for themselves.

In autumn 2006, McGrath moved to the Grand Rapids Griffins, the farm team of the Detroit Red Wings of the American Hockey League. He had a difficult debut season, as he could not be transferred to the play of his seniors Scorer skills from his youth time. At times, he was sent to the Toledo Storm in the ECHL, where he showed very good performances, but he scored 59 AHL games, only six goals in eight assists.

In the 2007 /08 season, McGrath initially could not yet develop into a service provider, but could be increased in the course of the season. Especially in the second half of the season he won with 22 points scorer in the last 30 league games, but the Griffins missed quite clearly the playoff ranks. For the new season, he lost his first place in the team, but could recapture him by convincing performances and presented itself in the course of the season as one of the most consistent offensive players in the squad of the Griffins. In an attack formation with Francis Paré and Francis Lemieux, he played his best season as a professional until then and developed within the team an important prop.

In the 2009/10 season he was an assistant captain of the Griffins, but remained well below last year's levels and came back in 15 games for the Syracuse Crunch for use. For the 2010/11 season he signed a contract with the Swedish second division VIK Västerås HK.
