Evancescence is the third studio album by American rock band Evanescence, which was released on 11 October 2011 on the label Wind - Up Records. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 and number five in Germany. The album was produced by Nick Raskulinecz.

History

The album was announced by Amy Lee in 2009, the forum of the website of the band. After the previous album, Lee needed a break and was not sure whether there would be a new album and if so, when. Finally, Lee decided to return to work with the band members. The new album should arise in a band collaboration more. It should then appear in August or September 2011. Finally the album for October 4 was announced, but the release date was postponed for a week. In Germany, it seemed nevertheless already on October 7.

To promote the first single What You Want, the band played the song a day before the release, 8 August 2011, the first time live.

Success and criticism

The album reached number one on the Billboard 200, number four in the UK, in Germany in fifth place. In Metacritic.com it received 63 out of 100 points from 9 reviews. Even otherwise, it was evaluated essentially positive. On the website Allmusic.com Album by Stephen Thomas Erlewine Evanescence as " aural candy for aging goths and tortured tweens alike" ( " sugar, both for the ears of aging Goths and of troubled ' tweens ' " ) was called. The Album rating was 3.5 out of 5 stars.
