Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Hungary

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary (Hungarian: Magyarországi Evangélikus Egyház ) is the national Lutheran church in Hungary. She is a member of the World Council of Churches ( WCC), the Lutheran World Federation (LWF ), the Conference of European Churches ( CEC) and the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe. Their office is based in Budapest.

History

The Reformation events in Wittenberg by Martin Luther in the years after 1517 was brought about Hungarian students who studied at Wittenberg, to Hungary. The Reformation thought was quickly at home here.

When the first transdanubian Reformers Mátyás Dévai, Gál Mihály and Huszár Sztárai occurred, the disputes began with the Turks in the southern border area. That was the reason that only in 1577 with Máté Szegedi the first Lutheran bishop in Hungary could be chosen.

For the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary with its 300 mostly living in the diaspora situation municipalities included in 2010 about 210,000 church members; which is about 3 percent of the Hungarian population.

Structure

The national church office is located at 1085 Budapest, Üllői út 24 It is the administrative center of the church. From here, the churches are supported by the education, construction, legal and Youth Department. Main decision-making body is the Synod, be sent to the delegates from all the parishes. Clergyman Head of the Synod is Dr. András Korányi, secular chairman is András Muntag.

The Spiritual Direction of the Church has a presiding bishop. He is one of three diocesan bishops. Until 2006 this office has held Bishop Imre Szebik. He was succeeded by the Bishop of the Diocese of West János Ittzés, and in 2011 joined Péter Gáncs this office on.

The Hungarian Evangelical Lutheran Church is divided into three church districts, which are subdivided into deaneries, which include the individual parishes.

Facilities

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary is numerically a small church of their country. But in the field of education and social services it provides a weighty value dar. in 37 educational institutions ( kindergartens, schools ) are approximately 7,000 children and young people taught by 1,000 teachers. At the Lutheran Theological University in Budapest studying 100 young people theology and Protestant religious education.

Numerous retirement homes will be offered, as well as facilities for the care and support of children with disabilities, the homeless, alcoholics. With social workshops and home care services, the church takes its social and human task true.
