Evangelical-Reformed Church of the Canton Basel-Stadt

The Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Basel-Stadt is the Reformed Church in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. She is a member of the Swiss Protestant Churches and the Conference of Churches on the Rhine.

History

The church was built with the Reformation in Basel in 1529, which was strongly influenced by the Basel reformer John Oecolampadius. By 1911, she was the state church and then became independent as a public law entity with its own tax jurisdiction.

Structure

Parishes

The Basel townspeople church consists of seven parishes and has around 30,000 members. You are territorially organized, which means the place of residence shall decide on the membership of the respective parish. Since 1997, however, exceptions to this principle are possible. The executive body is the church council.

Lutheran Church

The Synod ( Church Parliament ), the legislative body of the state church. It has 80 members who are elected by the voting members of the Church. The Synod elects the council which manages the national church and is responsible for the enforcement of decisions. The Basel church council has nine members and is since 1 September 2004 chaired by Luke Kundert.

A special position have the meetings of the pastor and the deacons, who are organized in the " parish chapters" and in the " Diakonatskapitel ".
