Evangelical United Brethren Church

The Evangelical United Brethren Church ( English Evangelical United Brethren Church ) was a Methodist church, which was created in 1946 from the union of the Methodist Protestant Churches Sister Community and Church of the United Brethren in Christ. In the German -speaking area they retained the name Evangelical Community ( EC). The Protestant community stood up to their union with the Methodist Church under the authority of a U.S. bishop.

Although the Protestant community was attributable to the Methodist Denominationsstrang, neither Methodist theology nor history of the Methodist Church family in Reutlingen Theological Seminary of the EC was particularly noted particularly in the mid-20th century. For the dogmatist in the seminar, Charles Steckel, such as the preparation for church union with the Methodists marked a turning point in the thinking and work.

As the Episcopal Methodist Church, the Evangelical community was closely linked to the international parent church in the United States.

In Germany since 1926 resulted in a close cooperation within the Association of Evangelical Free Churches (VEF ), which also included other free churches and communities. Added to this was from 1948, the cooperation in the Council of Christian Churches ( ACK) at different levels. Bilateral cooperation has happened since 1951, jointly organized tent mission. Particularly noteworthy is the with the Baptists since 1950 jointly issued Tear, who had a wide circulation in the churches. He offered the faithful for every day a contemplative short reading, a verse from the Bible and a hymn Note.

In 1968, the Evangelical United Brethren Church united with the Methodist Episcopal Church to the United Methodist Church (english The United Methodist Church ).
