Evangelos Koronios

Angelos Koronios (Greek Άγγελος Κορωνιός, born March 16, 1969) is a retired Greek professional basketball player.

Playing career

Club career

His career began in 1986 when Angelos Koronios then Greek second division club Peristeri Athens. With Peristeri in 1989 he managed to climb to the first division, was for a total of twelve seasons under contract and was also captain of his team. In 1998 he moved to AEK Athens, where he should win two years later with the Greek Cup and Saporta Cup the club the first title of his career. In the following five years Koronios played for a number of other Greek traditional clubs such as PAOK Thessaloniki and Olympiakos, where he ended his active career in 2005. For all its stations Koronios always one of the top performers and outstanding actors. Expression of its outstanding position in Greece's basketball history is the fact that he cites the statistics of the A1 Ethniki for points scored ( 7,080 ) and in assists ( 1,264 ) and steals ( 583 ) is exceeded only by Dimitrios Diamantidis. He also scored the most three-point throws ( 828 ) of all in Greece each active gewesenen players. Besides Fragiskos Alvertis and John Korfas Koronios one of only three players to over 600 successful three-point throws is to show in the Greek A1 Ethniki.

National

His debut at the Greek national was Koronios on 22 December 1988 in a game against the Yugoslav national basketball team. In the game, which lost 67-98 to Greece, Koronios scored seven points. In the following eleven years he always belonged to the circle of the national team, and participated in two European Championships and one World Championship. 1999, after a match against Lithuania, Koronios occurred after 104 inserts and 938 points ( 9.02 on average) from the national team back.

Coaching career

Directly after his active career took over as coach in 2005 Koronios the Greek club Alimos. After one season he moved to the traditional club Sporting Athens, where he already promotion to the first division after one season. After the climb, the then President of Sporting, Dimitrios Drossos took over, the first division club AEK Athens and took Koronios with his new club.
