Evans County, Georgia

The Evans County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Claxton, which was after Kate Claxton, a then famous actress, named.

Geography

The County is located in east-central Georgia, is in the east about 80 miles from South Carolina and in the southeast about 80 km from the Atlantic. It has an area of 484 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bulloch County, Bryan County, Liberty County, Tattnall County and Candler County.

History

Evans County was formed as the 150th county in Georgia from portions of Bulloch County and Tattnall County on August 11, 1914. It was named after Clement Anselm Evans, a Confederate general.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Evans County 10,495 people in 3,778 households and 2,678 families. The population density was 22 people per square kilometer.
