Evaristo Baschenis

Evaristo Baschenis ( born December 4, 1617 in Bergamo, Italy, † March 15, 1677 ibid, Italy ) was an Italian Baroque painter who as a highly specialized professional painter almost exclusively devoted to the presentation of stringed instruments. The near Cremona, famous center of violin and lute construction, provided the models. But unlike in Dutch painting forces itself on Baschenis not so much an allegorical and admonishing sense to - musical instruments were there often used as symbols of the sense of hearing, and the volatility of the sounds reminded of the transience - the emphasis is on the Italians rather decorative and aesthetic aspects, which follows from the peculiar elaboration of the picturesque and ornamental qualities of the instruments.
