Evaristo Nugkuag

Evaristo Nugkuag Ikanan (* 1950) is a Peruvian human rights activist and environmentalist.

Evaristo Nugkuag is a Aguaruna Indians and studied medicine in Lima. For many years he organized resistance to the destruction of habitats of indigenous peoples at the local, national and international level.

In 1977 he co-founded the Consejo Aguaruna y Huambisa ( CAH ), which represents 45,000 residents from 140 communities in the Amazon region and is committed to alternative forms of land protection, health, education and human development and one of the most influential organizations of the indigenous peoples of South America been.

Nugkuag was founded in 1980, founding president of AIDESEP ( Indigenous Development Association in the Peruvian rain forest ), in which in the Peruvian rainforest living Indigenous merged at the national level.
