Evelyn Holt

Evelyn Holt; native Edith Sklarz ( born October 3, 1906 in Berlin, † 22 February 2001 in Los Angeles, California ) was a German actress.

Life

The daughter of a journalist began her film career at the UFA. The attractive young woman quickly became the main roles alongside Gustav Fröhlich and Hans Albers. After singing lessons, she was obliged in 1931 as a soubrette at the Grosses Schauspielhaus in Berlin.

However, the transfer of power to the Nazis ended her film career after six successful years, since she was the alleged half-Jewish disbarment in film. She held still with engagements as a soubrette at the Komische Oper in Berlin on water. When she Jewish publisher Felix Guggenheim (1904-1976) married in 1936, she was also no longer possible. In 1938 the couple emigrated first to Switzerland in 1940 to move to England, and later in the United States. There was Felix Guggenheim exile publisher of authors such as Thomas Mann, Franz Werfel, Lion Feuchtwanger and Alfred Döblin.

Evelyn Holt remained until end of her life in the U.S. and never turned back a movie.
