Evelyn Keyes

Evelyn Keyes ( born November 20, 1916 in Port Arthur, Texas; † July 4, 2008 in Montecito, California ) was an American actress.

Life

After a few rather insignificant films Keyes got the role of Scarlett O'Hara in 1939 's younger sister Suellen in Gone with the Wind. In 1955 she starred in Billy Wilder's The cursed 7th year on the side of Marilyn Monroe.

Evelyn Keyes was from 1938 married to Barton Bainbridge, who committed suicide in 1940. From 1943 to 1945 she was married to director Charles Vidor, then from 1946 to 1950 with John Huston. From 1953, she was romantically involved with the theater producer Michael Todd, who later became Elizabeth Taylor's third husband was. Finally Keyes married the bandleader Artie Shaw in 1957. The two broke up in the 1970s, the divorce took place in 1985.

In 1977 she published her autobiography Scarlett O'Hara's Younger Sister: My Lively Life In and Out of Hollywood. Keyes died in 2008 at the age of 91 years at their last place of residence Montecito, California.
